Frequently Asked Questions

Care

Are the Zaanta finish covers with Zipper provided to allow it to be washed?
No, it is not. The organic fabric is not chemically treated to stabilise the fabric and such treatment if done will make the fabric non organic. As a result, the organic fabric if washed, may impair the fabric with shrinkage, pinching etc. For this reason the organic covers of Zaanta mattresses are not recommended for washing.
Can I use an electric blanket with the Zaanta mattress?

You can use an electric blanket on a latex mattress, but it would be better not to, as an electric blanket does not allow the latex to breath. Rather use a thick flannel sheet or a thicker, warmer duvet.

How do I remove the natural latex smell?

ZAANTA is made from 100% pure, natural rubber and may come with a fresh, natural latex aroma. Our mattresses are safe to sleep on, however if you find the smell strong, please do air it out. The smell is NOT permanent and will subside the more you air it out or by using it.

How often do I need to flip the mattress?

It is recommended that the mattress be flipped every few months. The mattress is made from a solid piece of latex so you can flip the mattress in any direction. Over a year, ensure that the mattress has rotated left to right, head to foot and over to under to extend the life of the mattress.

What are the care instructions for the covers?

Natural fabrics require special treatment. As our products avoid using ANY chemicals or dyes, the organic fibres in the fabric may shrink or lose colour to some degree, if improperly washed or exposed to heat and water. To minimise any risk of shrinking it is advised not to machine wash the ZAANTA natural fabric mattress covers.

Rather remove the mattress cover and air it out in the sunlight to disinfect. For spot cleaning, use only dry powder. Seek professional advise for stronger stains.
It is recommended to use a mattress protector to avoid staining the covers, as a preventative measure.

For further maintenance tips for your mattress, please read our ZAANTA Care Instructions Manual.

  • Do not dry clean
  • Do not wash or wet latex filling
  • Steam processing can cause damage and shrinkage.

What type of bed base should I use for the Zaanta mattress?

The best base for a Zaanta mattress is one with firm slats. The bed frame should also have support at the head, foot and sides. For queen and king size frames, have a central support slat. A platform bed or solid base will not allow the natural latex mattress to breathe, so you wouldn’t get the most out of your mattress

Design

Can you explain the difference between the Comfort series and the Dreamer series?
  • Comfort series – uses bamboo fabric which has hypoallergenic and antibacterial properties – great for those with asthma, allergies, sensitive skin – those who want the healthiest of sleeps.
  • Dreamliner series – uses organic cotton fabric which has a softer and plusher feel – great for those who want the luxurious look and feel – those who want the most comfortable of sleeps.
How is a Zaanta mattress made?

Pure, organically produced latex is sourced for the mattress foam. The latex is processed using the Dunlop method using only natural latex.

How is the Zaanta different to other latex mattresses?

Zaanta mattresses are made from 100% natural latex using a single piece of latex. So there is no synthetic glue or chances of layers shifting around. The mattress has pin core holes over the entire surface and on the top and bottom of the mattress. The mattress construction is simple: latex foam, with two breathable covers. All these design elements give you the full benefits of natural latex.

Is Zaanta mattress flame resistant?

Yes, latex is naturally. However, there is no additional fire barrier placed in the mattress.

What certifications do the mattresses have?

The latex foam used in Zaanta is tested by various independent organizations for purity, safety and durability. These foams have certifications by the USDA Organic, GOLS, Eco Institute, India Organic and OEKO-TEX Standard 100.

Why are the Zaanta finish covers provided with zippers if they are not recommended for washing.

The natural latex used in the Zaanta mattress unlike many other mattress inners outlasts most materials used as finish covers. So Zaanta mattress provides for replacing the finish cover once it reaches its usable life and gives the mattress a life beyond the life of its finish cover.
